2004 was a devastating year for
Florida. Four named storms hit the state: Charley,
Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne. There were many requests for aid
and it was realized that the Florida Kiwanis Foundation could
serve as a conduit for the collection of funds. One
problem - no means to distribute the funds under our existing
programs at the time. An Emergency Fund was created and
is disbursed by the executive director under the auspices of
the executive committee. Any grant request for up to $2000 to
aid in disaster recovery can now be disbursed immediately as
long as there are funds available in the Emergency Fund.
Funds availability is on a first come first served
basis. This fund streamlined the process and allowed
quick payouts at times of dire emergencies.
